It is a condition where the teeth are spaced apart, which is frequently encountered in people whose tooth size is small compared to their jaw structure. Sometimes, gaps may form between the teeth as the teeth shift towards the old extraction spaces.<\/p>

TREATMENT METHODS
Spaced teeth can be corrected with fixed orthodontic treatment (braces). If the tooth structures are very small, some teeth may need to be enlarged later with methods such as fillings. In such a case, a distance of approximately 1-2 mm is left on the edge of the upper lateral incisors and a filling is added to this gap after orthodontic treatment to obtain a more aesthetic smile. Of course, the remaining gaps will be closed with braces treatment.
POST-TREATMENT
At the end of every orthodontic treatment, a retention phase is necessary to maintain the achieved correction. Open bite is among the groups with the highest probability of recurrence. Therefore, it should be carried out meticulously for both the doctor and the patient. Reinforcement treatment is performed in our clinic by applying retainer wire and transparent plates together. In some cases, a separate appliance can be applied for reinforcement purposes. Especially in patients with tongue thrust, plates are given to prevent tongue thrust, in addition to the retainer wire. Retainer wire is a very thin wire that is glued to the back surfaces of the incisors. It does not restrict the patient’s eating and drinking and there is no change in speech. Since it is fixed, it is more reassuring for the permanence of the treatment if the patient does not remove it. However, since it is often not enough on its own, it often needs to be supported with transparent aligners. After the treatment is completed, patient-physician meetings continue. It is arranged as 2-3 meetings in the first 6 months and then once a year. However, if the patient experiences any issues, additional consultation appointments can be scheduled.
