Most of these problems can be corrected in adulthood without the need for jaw surgery if done at the appropriate time during the growth and development period.

However, in cases where it is late, there are two options left.

1- Orthognathic surgery: It is the positioning of the jaws to their proper position by incisions made under general anesthesia in the upper and/or lower jaw. For this, the person must be prepared for jaw surgery along with orthodontic treatment. This option is considered for patients with moderate and severe jaw disorders. You must be 18 years of age to have this surgery performed.

2-Camouflage orthodontic treatment: This treatment option is a treatment that can be considered in people with mild skeletal jaw problems. If the person is not disturbed by his or her appearance, the bone structure supporting the teeth, which we call alveolar bone, is healthy and sufficient, and the angles of the incisors are suitable for this treatment, it can be performed. Although it does not create as significant a facial change as chin surgery, changing the positions of the incisors will camouflage the underlying skeletal jaw problem by changing the lip positions positively. In this method, auxiliary orthodontic devices called miniscrews are frequently used. Thus, the patient is helped to gain a better closure.
